08/2008 - The Ross Township Fire Police recently added 2 new pieces to its arsenal of equipment. The first is a trailer, unit #6 that consists of large barricades. These barricades are of the utmost use during times when a road is closed for an extended period of time. They are made of plastic and are filled with water. They were tested out last year and proved to be a major success.
02/6/2008 - Today The Ross Township Fire Police celebrated the 30th anniversary of their existence. We want to thank everyone that joined us in the joyous occasion and appreciate the continued support.
01/25/2008 - After the great results of the lift gate that was installed on unit #3, it was decided that its sister unit, unit #1, would get the same piece of equipment installed. This lift gate assists with the removal and clean up at emergency situations and especially when loading generators into the vehicles.
10/22/2007 - All three traffic control units are now equipped with the latest LED style emergency lighting. The Ross Fire Police also have placed Unit #6 into service. This is a trailer equipped with 15 large barriers which are used for extensive road closures. Photographs to be posted soon!
7/23/2007 - Unit #3 went into service! As of this day (7/23/2007) Unit #3 is officially in service. This vehicle is equiped with the latest LED style lighting, custom lift gate, and many new options. Feel free to stop by JABMH to check it out sometime!
5/1/2007 - It was decided at the company meeting in April to purchase a new fire police traffic control unit. A 2007 Chevrolet Express with a Knapheide utility van body will be purchased. This new vehicle is expected to be in service in July 2007. This vehicle will replace Unit #3 which is a 1998 Ford E-350 Van.
4/13/2007 - 4/15/2007 - Eight members of The Ross Township Fire Police attended Fire Police Academy weekend at Somerset. This is a 1 day seminar and 2 days of class. Seminars range from 3-4.5 hrs and the classes are 16 hour classes. Through these classes Fire Police Officers can earn National Fire Police I Certification.
12-2006 – The Ross Township Fire Police recently received a grant to upgrade the three fire police traffic control units with new emergency lights. The three vehicles will receive all new LED style lighting.
10-27-2006 The Ross Township Fire Police assisted Ross Police, The United States Secret Service, and others to ensure the safety of First Lady Laura Bush. She visited Ross Township to assist in campaign goals.
10-1-2006 The Ross Township Fire Police are currently working on a 15KW Generator that will be used to power up any Ross Fire Company or Municipal Building in the township in the event that a power outage occurs. The Generator will be on a mobile trailer and powered by propane. The generac generator and trailer were donated. Through the hard work of The Ross Township Fire Police members, the generator will be mobile and in service soon. Check the Photograph section for some pictures.
On 8-9-2006 The Ross Township Fire Police placed three A.E.D units into service. These A.E.D. units were received from a recent grant. These units will be placed in the three Ross Township Fire Police traffic control units. On 8-9-2006 The Ross Township Fire Police also received A.E.D and CPR certification.
On 6-1-2006 The Ross Township Fire Police received 10 new generators from a recent grant. The generators are used to serve the township by supplying power to the traffic lights in the event that there is a power loss. The generators also are used to provide power for light towers on the three Ross Fire Police traffic control units.
On 3-24-2006 The Ross Township Fire Police assisted with the Presidential visit to Sewickley Heights. The Ross Township Fire Police worked with The United States Secret Service, The Pennsylvania State Police, Ohio Township Police Department, Sheriffs Department, and more. This event entailed the closure of a ~30 point shut off route. The Ross Township Fire Police officers were stationed along this route to help ensure the safety of President George W. Bush.
